Roundtable discussions with scientists

WaterSchool Cabinet of Curiosities functions as the setting for a series of roundtable discussions with artists, scientists and designers between December 2022 and July 2023. Members of KNAW, De Jonge Akademie and Akademie van Kunsten are invited to join these conversations in the Trippenhuis.

Roundtable discussions:

The series of roudtabel discussions will take place with artists, scientists and designers. These discussions will be centered aroud questions and topics like:
- the human as wandering ecosystem and the role of water in maintaining this
- agriculture as an industry, and how it is to cope with a changing climate and soil
- the invisible water footprint of our behavior and surroundings
- architecture as a discipline, and how the changing climate can impact the design of buildings
- the legal status of oceans, rivers and other bodies of water
- the role of education in teaching different ways of handling water.

The exact agenda is as follows:

12 December 2022 | 7.30 – 9 p.m
Roundtable 1:
H2O, man as a walking ecosystem, and the role of water in its conservation with Philipp Kolmann, Billie van Katwijk and Jurgen Bey, moderated by Daan Veerman.

16 January 2023 | 7.00 – 9.00 p.m.
Roundtable 2:
​​​​​Drop by Drop, on ecological footprints, cilmate models and tipping points with Maarten Scheffer, Lab AIR, Jurgen Bey and moderator Mingus Janssen.

13 February 2023 | 7.00 – 9.30 p.m.
Roundtable 3:
Lunch Break, on agriculture and salinization in a changing climate with Boris van Breukelen, Hannah Schneider, Anastasia Eggers and Jurgen Bey, moderated by Mingus Janssen.

13 March 2023 | 7.00 – 9.30 p.m.
Roundtable 4:
Fluent Tongues, the legal status of oceans, rivers and other water bodies with Annemarie Mol, Klaas Kuitenbrouwer and Jurgen Bey, moderated by Mingus Janssen.

17 April 2023 | 7.00 – 9.30 p.m.
Roundtable 5:
New Atlantis, architecture as a discipline, and how the changing climate can and will affect building design.

15 May 2023 | 7.00 – 9.30 p.m.
Roundtable 6:
WaterSchool, the role of education in teaching less wasteful ways to use water.

There is room for a maximum of 12 participants per roundtable discussion. Participation is open to members of KNAW, Akademie van Kunsten and De Jonge Akademie. Other specialists who wish to contibute to the conversation can also register by sending an email to annelies.ten.have@knaw.nl. Indicate which dates you would like to attend.
