“Making waves”, a radio show by Studio Makkink & Bey and Good Times Bad Times for Waterschool, occupied the sonic spectrum for 3 consecutive days, broadcasting from the WATERSCHOOL M4H+ exhibition site, in the warehouse of Studio Makkink & Bey in Merwe-Vierhavens, Rotterdam.
Within every episode of “Making Waves”, one of the materials and its associated plan is discussed together with an expert and a designer/artist. Parallel to this, the radio show will feature fictional stories which imagine how it would be to live in this future landscape.
Apart from interviews with experts and artists, there will also be a reading of the fictional stories by Mingus Janssen, as well as daily weather reports by Rianne Makkink. Optionally there will be commercials by designers that are included in the exhibition, recorded as if their products are sold within these future landscapes and societies.
Over the course of one year, Studio Makkink & Bey studied Merwe-Vierhavens and its inhabitants, in order to develop a set of proposals which outline how (certain areas of) M4H could be (re)developed by devoting each of them to the production and processing of a material, being seaweed, insects, duckweed, wood and mycelium.
Day 1 | Seaweed
Day 2 | Funghi and insects
Day 3 | Duckweed
