SMOGWARE
Every day, unnoticed, we inhale soot, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. With negative impact on our health. Designers Iris de Kievith and Annemarie Piscaer found a way to harvest fine dust and use it for ceramic glazing, creating a new porcelain tableware. The colourful glazing created from the captured dust makes the (poor) air quality visible, even tangible. Because the use of tableware – a cereal bowl or a coffee cup – in intimacy is related to breathing, it was chosen as a medium for raising awareness of air pollution. Initially the Smogware tableware is produced using the air pollution of Rotterdam. Today the project is beeing set up in other cities and countries.

TASTE THE AIR
Let’s have a look at the sky with a different view. Because it is there, above our heads, it is the scene for our most urgent crises. Literally, since particulate matter and greenhouse gases, it’s all in the air. For the common eye, they are invisible and the topic is complex. The ‘Taste the air’ invites to meet these elements in an immersive installation and sparkling conversations.
